‘Walking Dervish’ Koman exhibition
at EXPO2000 Hanover World Fair
('Akdeniz' - copy)
Ilhan Koman was chosen in 2000 to represent Turkish modern art at the
EXPO2000 Hanover World
Fair in Germany.
The exhibition's curators (Ozgur Uckan and Arhan Kayar) decided to present
over 50 of Koman's best works, including a full-scale
copy of 'Akdeniz' ('Mediterranean), which took several months to build.
Design exhibition has been assumed by dream Design factory (dDf).
Since Ilhan Koman passed away, in 1986 most of his works had remained
in Stockholm, under the supervision of the Swedish side of the Koman
family. EXPO2000 has been the occasion to ship them, first to Germany,
then to Turkey, where they still are nowadays, stored in Istanbul and
now professionally managed by the Koman Foundation.
The Turkish Republic
Ministry of Culture sponsored this exhibition.
