Koman exhibition in ‘Turkish Art
in the Second of the 20th Century’ show

‘Modern Turk’ exhibition took place from 22nd of September until 15th of November 2001 within the Royal Stables of the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul.

This exceptional show presented 109 works from 109 renowned and underground Turkish artists, showing the development of Turkish modern and contemporary art since 1950 until 2000. One art piece of Ilhan Koman, ‘Umaci’ (‘The Ogre’), was exhibited among them.

On the occasion of this show, a historically well-documented catalogue has been published (ISBN: 975-93305-0-4).

This show was organised by the Istanbul Art Museum Foundation, an active and wide NGO that struggled for years for Istanbul to get its first modern art museum opened.

Exhibition realisation team included Yusuk Taktak, Can Aytekin. Safak Eyuboglu, Ismet Hosel, Aysun Akdag, Eda Soykan, Ayse Ataman, Erhan Ersoz, Guzide Islamoglu, Sema Sener, Zeynep Taskent, Yesim Turanli, Levent Calikoglu, Aysun Akdag, Necdet Kaygin, Zeynep Perker and the Istanbul Art Museum Foundation’s president: Tomur Atagok, PhD.

The Turkish Republic Ministry of Culture sponsored this exhibition.
