‘Modern and Beyond’ show
(Santral Istanbul)

first major show, called ‘Modern and Beyond’, from September 2007 until June 2008.

Implementation of Koman’s
‘To Infinity…’
monumental artwork in santralistanbul
('To Infinity...')
One of Koman’s masterpieces, called ‘To Infinity…’
has been realised in monumental scale (6-meter long), in titanium 1st
grade, for permanent implementation within santralistanbul
site (in Eyup district). The artwork was inaugurated within the santralistanbul's
Grand Opening, in September 2007, during Istanbul
10th Biennial of
Contemporary Art.
Italian-Swedish artist Marco Veschetti, who used to be Ilhan Koman’s
assistant in Stockholm, participated to the realisation of this piece,
together with the Koman Foundation’s team. It took over a year
to build this intriguing work referring to several complicated mathematical
and mechanical principles.
Ilhan Koman had made several prototypes of this artwork. He was planning
to build it in monument scale, but never got the chance to do so during
his lifetime.
‘To Infinity…’ is the 6th Koman’s monumental
artworks posthumously realised. It is the 5th artworks created by Ilhan
Koman to be implemented in a public space in Turkey.

developable forms and showed that, using this procedure, a variety
of spiral developable forms can be constructed.
